Help Haven to build a shelter for families left homeless by the devastating earthquake in Port-au-Prince.
A Transitional Shelter, otherwise known as T-Shelter, is a temporary but solid structure, resistant to the rains and high winds that Haiti is prone to.
These shelters offer families displaced by the earthquake, a step up from a tent or tarpaulin located in an overcrowded campsite. They are intended as temporary accommodation only, until the time comes when the family are able to move into a new or indeed return to, a permanent homes. This is Phase II of the shelter programme in Port au Prince.
One family lives in each shelter.
These shelters are 20 meters squared in size, with a concrete foundation, 3 courses of block work at the base, the remainder of the shelter is constructed out of a timber frame, with a corrugated iron roof.
